As a whole-hearted nature lover, I find immense joy in creations that beautifully intertwine what grows outside with what can bloom on canvas. Recently, I was called to paint a collection of sunflowers inspired by a large field that was full of different varieties of them not far from my art studio outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The result is a beautiful collection of six sunflower paintings created in oil paint and a set of 15 sunflower ornaments that I'm excited to be able to share with you. Each piece not only showcases the vibrant beauty of sunflowers but also captures a profound connection to nature and our female ancestors that resonates deeply with me. It is my hope that they serve as a heartfelt gift by bringing a feeling of happiness and connection to a special memory of someone you love.

The Beauty of Sunflowers
Sunflowers are like bursts of sunshine in the garden; their bright yellow petals and towering stalks can instantly enhance any outdoor space. I’ve always been fascinated by their unique ability to follow the sun, symbolizing positivity and warmth.
For whatever reason, sunflowers are like Cardinal birds to me, in that they bring up memories of loved ones who have passed. So when I see sunflowers popping up and looking for the light, I can't help but think of them as symbolic hugs from the grandmothers in the world spreading love, both now and in the past.
I tried to express this connection while painting, emphasizing the colors of the petals and the softness in edges of where they meet the greenery and sky.

With the holiday season approaching, I often search for unique gifts and decorations that stand out. This is where the sunflower ornaments shine. Like the paintings, each ornament is named after a grandma of someone who has shared her name with me. I have made small, canvas prints of the paintings, tucked them into mini frames, and strung them with hand-dyed ribbon. They are adorable and unique little ornaments, available in two sizes.
